SMS Terms

AI summary

AI-written reading aid: an overview of this policy. The full policy below is the authoritative text.

  • Offer texts are optional: tick the unticked box on a domain's offer form to get texts about that offer; a phone number alone is not consent.
  • You get at most one automatic text per offer, none once the seller has texted you, plus seller messages while negotiating. Texts contain no links, and message and data rates may apply.
  • Reply STOP to end texts across all offers; your offer stays open and replies continue by email. Reply START to resume offer texts, or HELP for help.
  • Deals by text is a separate optional program joined only by its own contact-form box. Consent is not a condition of purchase; none are sent yet, and a confirmation text comes first.
  • STOP also withdraws deal-text consent, and START does not restore it; you must tick the box again.
  • Your number reaches the seller with your offer or message through a private Telegram chat, is never shared for marketing, and only mobile and VoIP numbers are texted. Questions go to legal@namegarage.com.

1. What this is

Namegarage sells domain names. When you make an offer on one, we reply by email. A share of those replies are never read — they land in spam, or in an inbox nobody opened that week — and a negotiation dies that should not have. This program exists for that single case: a short text telling you that a reply is waiting, and the ability for the seller to answer you by text if that is easier for you.

It is not a marketing program. There is no newsletter, no promotion, no recurring campaign, and no way to subscribe to one. A number is attached to one offer and is texted about that offer only.

2. How you opt in

The opt-in is on the offer form, on any domain page. The path, exactly:

  1. Open a domain page — for example namegarage.com/domain/giveme. Every name in the catalog has one.
  2. Open the Make offer panel.
  3. Fill in your offer. The Phone field is optional; a number alone is not consent to be texted.
  4. Tick the checkbox under it. It is unticked when the page loads, and it reads:

☐ Text me about this offer at this number.

Message frequency may vary — at most one automatic text per offer, plus any the seller sends you about it. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our SMS Terms, Privacy Policy and Terms.

The consent block as it appears under the phone field on every domain page. Reproduced here; the live form is the one that counts.

Submitting the offer with that box ticked is the consent. We record the moment it was given against your offer. Leave it unticked and the number is never texted — it is only checked once, as described in the Privacy Policy, and shown to the seller.

If you send an offer with the box unticked, the form asks you once, in a pop-up titled Get our reply by text too?, which shows the same disclosures and links as the box. Text me too — send offer ticks this same box, and asks for your number first if you left it blank; Send without texts sends the offer as it is; closing the pop-up changes nothing. Either way, the consent is the box on the offer that goes out.

There is no other way in. We do not buy, rent, or import phone numbers, and there is no keyword to text to join.

3. What we send

Two kinds of message, both about the offer you made, both from the same number:

  • One automatic message, at most once per offer, sent a day after a reply we emailed you bounced or showed no sign of having been opened. It reads:
Namegarage: there's a reply waiting on your offer for example.com. Please check your email, including spam. Reply STOP to opt out.
(the live message also names the mailbox the reply came from, and the domain is whichever one you offered on).
  • Messages the seller writes, when answering you by text is quicker than another email — a counter, a question, a confirmation. Every one of them is prefixed Namegarage: so you always know who is texting, and every one of them ends with Reply STOP to opt out. so the way out is in front of you in whichever message you happen to read.

A text from us never contains a link. If something needs you to click, it is in the email. Anyone texting you a link in our name is not us.

4. Message frequency

Message frequency may vary. There is exactly one hard limit, and it is the one we can promise: at most one automatic text per offer, and none at all once the seller has texted you. The rest are messages the seller writes while you negotiate, as many or as few as that conversation takes — there is no cap on those, because they are replies in a negotiation you started. There is no schedule and nothing recurring, and STOP ends all of it.

5. Cost

Message and data rates may apply. We charge nothing for the texts; your mobile carrier may, according to your own plan.

6. HELP

Reply HELP to any message and you will get a reply naming the program and how to reach us. You can also write to legal@namegarage.com, or simply reply to the email we sent about your offer — it reaches the seller directly.

7. STOP

Reply STOP to any message and the texts end. It is honored twice over: the carrier network blocks the number at once, and we record the opt-out ourselves and send nothing further — across every offer, not only the one you replied to. You do not lose your offer by opting out; we simply go back to answering you by email.

Reply START if you opted out and want the texts back.

The keyword has to be the whole message. "End of the week is fine" is an answer about a deadline, not an opt-out, and is treated as one.

8. Who sees your number

No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your number, and the consent you gave to be texted at it, are never sold, rented, or passed to anyone for their own use. The seller reads it with the rest of your offer, which reaches them in a private chat on Telegram — that is true of any number you leave, ticked box or not, because it is how an offer is read at all. For the texts themselves the only parties that handle it are Telnyx, the subcontractor that verifies the number and carries what we send, and the mobile carrier that delivers it; neither may use it for anything but delivering our messages to you. What we store, for how long, who else it passes through, and how to have it erased is in the Privacy Policy.

9. Carriers

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed: a message can be blocked, delayed, or dropped by a network we have no control over, which is exactly why every one of these texts is a pointer to an email that also exists.

10. Which numbers

Mobile and VoIP numbers only — a VoIP line such as Google Voice receives texts like a mobile does. A number that the one-time check reports as a landline, a toll-free line, or a line of unknown type is never texted, whether or not the box was ticked.

11. Deals by text

Sections 1 to 10 describe the offer texts, and they stay exactly what those sections say: not a marketing program. Deals by text is a second, separate program: texts about domain deals and news from Namegarage. You join it only by ticking its own box on the contact form, which also asks for your phone number. The box is unticked when the page loads, and it reads:

☐ Text me deals and news from Namegarage at the number above. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.

The box as it appears on the contact form, beside links to these terms and the Privacy Policy. Reproduced here; the live form is the one that counts.

Sending the form with that box ticked is the consent, and we record it with the wording you saw and when you sent it. Consent is not a condition of purchase: you can buy any domain, make an offer or write to us without it, and leaving the box unticked does not change our answer.

We send no deal texts yet. Before your first deal text we send one text asking you to confirm. Without that confirmation you get none.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text and nothing further is sent to your number, deal texts included; STOP also withdraws your consent to deal texts, and START does not restore it, so to get them again you tick the box again. Reply HELP for help, or write to legal@namegarage.com. Your number reaches the seller with your message, ticked box or not, and Section 8 applies to it too: no mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

12. Changes

These terms are versioned. Every version stays published at its own permanent address with the hash of its source, listed at the foot of this page, so the wording in effect on the day you opted in stays readable. Questions about them go to legal@namegarage.com.
