SMS Terms
In short. If you leave a phone number with an offer and tick the box asking for texts, we may text you about that offer — at most one automatic text, plus any the seller writes to you while you negotiate, each one about the domain you asked about. Nothing else is ever sent to it. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Your number is never shared with anyone for marketing.
1. What this is
Namegarage sells domain names. When you make an offer on one, we reply by email. A share of those replies are never read — they land in spam, or in an inbox nobody opened that week — and a negotiation dies that should not have. This program exists for that single case: a short text telling you that a reply is waiting, and the ability for the seller to answer you by text if that is easier for you.
It is not a marketing program. There is no newsletter, no promotion, no recurring campaign, and no way to subscribe to one. A number is attached to one offer and is texted about that offer only.
2. How you opt in
The opt-in is on the offer form, on any domain page. The path, exactly:
- Open a domain page — for example namegarage.com/domain/giveme. Every name in the catalog has one.
- Open the Make offer panel.
- Fill in your offer. The Phone field is optional; a number alone is not consent to be texted.
- Tick the checkbox under it. It is unticked when the page loads, and it reads:
☐ Text me about this offer at this number.
Message frequency may vary — at most one automatic text per offer, plus any the seller sends you about it. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our SMS Terms, Privacy Policy and Terms.
Submitting the offer with that box ticked is the consent. We record the moment it was given against your offer. Leave it unticked and the number is never texted — it is only checked once, as described in the Privacy Policy, and shown to the seller.
If you send an offer with the box unticked, the form asks you once, in a pop-up titled Get our reply by text too?, which shows the same disclosures and links as the box. Text me too — send offer ticks this same box, and asks for your number first if you left it blank; Send without texts sends the offer as it is; closing the pop-up changes nothing. Either way, the consent is the box on the offer that goes out.
There is no other way in. We do not buy, rent, or import phone numbers, and there is no keyword to text to join.
3. What we send
Two kinds of message, both about the offer you made, both from the same number:
- One automatic message, at most once per offer, sent a
day after a reply we emailed you bounced or showed no sign of having been
opened. It reads:
Namegarage: there's a reply waiting on your offer for example.com. Please check your email, including spam. Reply STOP to opt out.
(the live message also names the mailbox the reply came from, and the domain is whichever one you offered on). - Messages the seller writes, when answering you by text is quicker than another email — a counter, a question, a confirmation. Every one of them is prefixed Namegarage: so you always know who is texting, and every one of them ends with Reply STOP to opt out. so the way out is in front of you in whichever message you happen to read.
A text from us never contains a link. If something needs you to click, it is in the email. Anyone texting you a link in our name is not us.
4. Message frequency
Message frequency may vary. There is exactly one hard limit, and it is the one we can promise: at most one automatic text per offer, and none at all once the seller has texted you. The rest are messages the seller writes while you negotiate, as many or as few as that conversation takes — there is no cap on those, because they are replies in a negotiation you started. There is no schedule and nothing recurring, and STOP ends all of it.
5. Cost
Message and data rates may apply. We charge nothing for the texts; your mobile carrier may, according to your own plan.
6. HELP
Reply HELP to any message and you will get a reply naming the program and how to reach us. You can also write to legal@namegarage.com, or simply reply to the email we sent about your offer — it reaches the seller directly.
7. STOP
Reply STOP to any message and the texts end. It is honored twice over: the carrier network blocks the number at once, and we record the opt-out ourselves and send nothing further — across every offer, not only the one you replied to. You do not lose your offer by opting out; we simply go back to answering you by email.
Reply START if you opted out and want the texts back.
The keyword has to be the whole message. "End of the week is fine" is an answer about a deadline, not an opt-out, and is treated as one.
8. Who sees your number
No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your number, and the consent you gave to be texted at it, are never sold, rented, or passed to anyone for their own use. The seller reads it with the rest of your offer, which reaches them in a private chat on Telegram — that is true of any number you leave, ticked box or not, because it is how an offer is read at all. For the texts themselves the only parties that handle it are Telnyx, the subcontractor that verifies the number and carries what we send, and the mobile carrier that delivers it; neither may use it for anything but delivering our messages to you. What we store, for how long, who else it passes through, and how to have it erased is in the Privacy Policy.
9. Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed: a message can be blocked, delayed, or dropped by a network we have no control over, which is exactly why every one of these texts is a pointer to an email that also exists.
10. Which numbers
Mobile and VoIP numbers only — a VoIP line such as Google Voice receives texts like a mobile does. A number that the one-time check reports as a landline, a toll-free line, or a line of unknown type is never texted, whether or not the box was ticked.
11. Changes
These terms are versioned. Every version stays published at its own permanent address with the hash of its source, listed at the foot of this page, so the wording in effect on the day you opted in stays readable. Questions about them go to legal@namegarage.com.
